Ajinomoto scoops spotlight with Solein-powered ice cream at Singapore Aquatics Championships
Japanese food giant Ajinomoto is serving up its latest innovation at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore with the launch of a new Solein-powered ice cream under its conscious brand Atlr.72. The Flowering Ice Cream, now available at a dedicated food truck at the event arena, marks a high-profile step in Ajinomoto’s drive to introduce healthier and more sustainable snacking options to a global audience.
Running from 18 July to 3 August, the international championship provides a prominent platform for Ajinomoto to showcase its next-generation product, which is enriched with Solein, a novel protein produced by Finnish company Solar Foods. This collaboration follows a strategic product development partnership between the two companies established in 2023.
Atlr.72, launched by Ajinomoto as a response to rising consumer demand for nutritious and environmentally friendly food, first introduced limited-edition Solein products in September 2024. These included Flowering Mooncakes and Ice Cream Sandwiches. The Flowering Ice Cream, available in three flavors in Singapore, followed earlier this year and has received positive customer feedback.
Ajinomoto’s goal with Atlr.72 is to go beyond indulgent desserts and move into everyday meals that align with a more mindful approach to eating. The brand aims to create products that not only taste good but also contribute to a healthier lifestyle and a more sustainable future.
“We are very excited that Ajinomoto is introducing Solein-powered products for consumers during the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025, and we are proud to support Ajinomoto in promoting a new food lifestyle including healthier and more environmentally friendly snacking,” commented Juan Benitez Garcia, Chief Sales Officer at Solar Foods. “Solein delivers a protein boost to the indulgent products, adding outstanding nutrition with a minimal environmental impact.”
The inclusion of Solein, a protein created using carbon dioxide, air, and electricity in a fermentation process, underlines both companies’ commitment to sustainable innovation. According to Solar Foods, the ingredient offers nutritional value while requiring significantly fewer resources than traditional agriculture.
Ajinomoto’s decision to feature Atlr.72 at the World Aquatics Championships reflects a broader ambition to elevate its conscious brand on a global stage. The company has hinted at future expansion of the Atlr.72 line to include daily meal options and plans to establish a flagship store as a showcase for its vision of a healthier, more sustainable food culture.
With the world’s top swimmers and aquatic athletes gathered in Singapore, Ajinomoto’s latest launch offers visitors and participants alike a taste of what the future of food could look like – convenient, indulgent, and made with the planet in mind.
