Angel Yeast adds dual certifications to Angeopro yeast protein

September 29, 2026

Angel Yeast has secured two international certifications for its Angeopro yeast protein portfolio, adding third-party credentials around FODMAP content and contaminant testing as the company targets wider use of the ingredient in nutrition products.

• Angel Yeast's Angeopro F80, F84, Hi90-A and S80-A yeast proteins have received Monash University Low FODMAP certification, supporting their use in low FODMAP food applications.
•
Angeopro products manufactured at Angel Yeast's Yichang High-Tech Zone facility have also secured Clean Label Project certification following independent testing for potential contaminants.
•
The fermentation-derived protein contains all nine essential amino acids, has a reported PDCAAS of 1.0 and is being targeted at nutrition and special dietary applications.

The company's Angeopro F80, F84, Hi90-A and S80-A yeast proteins have received Monash University Low FODMAP certification, while Angeopro products manufactured by Angel Yeast (Yichang High-Tech Zone) have received Clean Label Project certification.

The Monash certification confirms that the four Angeopro ingredients meet the program's requirements for low levels of FODMAPs, fermentable short-chain carbohydrates that can trigger digestive symptoms in some people.

For Angel Yeast, the certification supports the use of Angeopro in food applications aimed at consumers following low FODMAP diets, including people managing digestive sensitivities such as irritable bowel syndrome.

There is an important distinction for finished food manufacturers. Products formulated with Angeopro cannot automatically carry Monash University's low FODMAP certification. Finished products must be tested and participate in the university's certification program before making a Monash low FODMAP certified claim.

The Clean Label Project certification covers a different part of the ingredient's quality profile. Rather than focusing simply on the number or type of ingredients appearing on a label, the program uses independent laboratory testing to assess products for potential contaminants.

Testing is carried out at an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory. Depending on the product category, the Clean Label Project's standard panel covers bisphenols, heavy metals including arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury, more than 100 pesticide residues and several phthalates. Acrylamide testing is also conducted for products that undergo heat processing during manufacturing.

Angel Yeast said the certifications strengthen Angeopro's credentials as a protein ingredient for international nutrition markets.

Produced through yeast fermentation, Angeopro contains all nine essential amino acids and has a reported Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score, or PDCAAS, of 1.0. The company also highlights its branched-chain amino acid content and digestion characteristics.

According to Angel Yeast, the protein combines rapid initial digestion with high overall digestibility and sustained amino acid release, giving it potential across applications ranging from everyday nutritional supplementation to products developed for specific dietary requirements.

The ingredient also naturally contains beta-glucan and is lactose-free and gluten-free. Angel Yeast describes Angeopro as free from common allergens and suitable for vegetarian and vegan formulations.

The company is also targeting applications where protein digestibility is an important formulation consideration, including nutrition products for older consumers and people with weaker gastrointestinal function.

Yeast protein offers manufacturers another route to protein production alongside conventional animal and plant sources, with fermentation providing a controlled production process that does not depend on livestock or conventional protein crops.

For ingredient suppliers, however, protein quantity alone is unlikely to determine where those ingredients can be used. Digestibility, amino acid composition, dietary compatibility and quality assurance all affect whether a protein fits a particular nutritional product.

The two certifications address separate parts of that equation for Angeopro. Monash University's program verifies the ingredients' low FODMAP status, while Clean Label Project certification provides independent testing against a range of potential contaminants.

Angel Yeast said it will continue benchmarking its yeast protein products against international standards as it looks to expand their use with customers worldwide.
