Boermarke expands Vairy line with plant-based drinks, puddings and yogurts in sustainable cartons
Boermarke, a key player in Europe’s plant-based dairy alternatives market, has announced the launch of a new range of drinks, puddings and yogurts, all packed in Pure-Pak Sense cartons made with Natural Brown Board. The expansion marks another step toward the company’s goal of becoming a fully plant-based operation, following its divestment from traditional dairy in 2023.
The new products will be released under Boermarke’s own Vairy brand, as well as through private label partnerships, with distribution planned across 21 European countries. Among the first additions to the portfolio are puddings in four flavors – vanilla, chocolate, caramel and orange – all fortified with calcium and vitamins B2, B12 and D. These will be joined by ‘Mild & Creamy’ plant-based yoghurts, also packaged in one-liter cartons.
Boermarke began its collaboration with packaging supplier Elopak in April 2025, installing a new ultra-hygienic filling line at its facility in Enschede, the Netherlands. According to the company, this investment will support the scaleup of its plant-based offerings for both the retail and foodservice markets.
“We are intensifying our partnerships with retailers in all our core categories – yogurt, ice cream and cheese – expanding from four to 21 countries in the past 18 months,” said Klaasjan Joosten, Commercial Manager at Boermarke. “As a full-service supplier of private label products, we want to provide packaging solutions across all our categories. We are very pleased with the new Elopak filling line. The launch of our yoghurt products for the foodservice sector is the first step for the carton packs.”
The choice of Elopak’s carton packaging aligns with Boermarke’s emphasis on sustainability and consumer convenience. Joosten noted that the new filling machine has allowed Boermarke to improve product shelf life while ensuring consistent quality. He added that the packaging’s recyclability and design potential were also factors in the decision to adopt the Pure-Pak Sense format.
“With Elopak, we have a comprehensive supplier who can meet all our packaging needs,” Joosten said. “The machine from Elopak is highly efficient, helping to improve shelf life and ensuring products of good value and quality. Sustainability and service played a key role in selecting Elopak. The company is the dominant carton supplier in our market providing fully recyclable packaging that is highly convenient and offers eye-catching design opportunities.”
The move to offer more products in cartons comes at a time when plant-based consumption continues to rise across Europe, driven in part by increasing numbers of flexitarian consumers. Boermarke, which launched its Vairy brand a decade ago with a coconut-based yoghurt, has since broadened its range to include plant-based cheese and ice cream. Its products are available across major European retailers including Edeka, Lidl, Albert Heijn, Aldi, Colruyt, Billa, Salling, and Mercator.
Boermarke’s transition away from dairy gained momentum after the company reported an 800% increase in plant-based production leading up to 2023. This paved the way for the sale of its dairy division and the deepening of its commitment to plant-based innovation.
“What matters most to consumers is that our plant-based dairy alternatives taste just as good as traditional dairy. It is first of all about taste, taste and taste,” said Joosten. “Around a third of consumers are flexitarian. If we are able to offer a good alternative, more people can switch from dairy, which contributes to a more sustainable planet. Therefore, we are continuing to develop a fully plant-based range without compromising on taste, quality, and nutritional values.”
With the new launch, Boermarke is positioning itself to meet both the functional and ethical demands of modern consumers while also supporting retail partners with a scalable and efficient supply chain. The company plans to continue its expansion into foodservice and international markets as it scales up production of its Vairy line.
