From Nutrumami to SUMM Ingredients: €1.7 million raise fuels FermiPro launch

September 19, 2025

Danish food-tech company SUMM Ingredients, formerly known as Nutrumami, has announced the close of a €1.7 million (US$1.8 million) funding round, a rebrand, and the upcoming launch of its first commercial product, FermiPro. The developments mark a significant step for the company as it moves from concept to market entry.

The round was backed by existing investors Kost Capital and Planetary Impact Ventures, alongside new co-investors BoxOne Ventures and EIFO. Founder Frederik Jensen described the fundraising as hard-won in a challenging investment climate. “To be real, in today’s market, this does not come easy,” he said. “It’s been a journey full of twists and turns – but transforming extra challenges into invaluable lessons.”

The company’s new name reflects its broadened mission. “We went from thinking plant-based to plant-centric for a renewed, greater mission of replacing additives with plants,” Jensen said. “Our new name SUMM Ingredients reflects this ambition: the summ of functions we combine and the summ of impact we want to create.” While Nutrumami focused on flavor innovations, SUMM is positioning itself in a wider category of multifunctional ingredients designed to simplify formulation. The new brand identity, Jensen added, is also “way easier than spelling Nutrumami”.

Central to the company’s growth plans is FermiPro, a fermentation-derived ingredient designed to replace gums, starches, and synthetic additives with a natural, plant-based alternative. Scheduled to launch this autumn, FermiPro is intended to help food producers create clean-label products that are healthier, easier to formulate, and more aligned with consumer demand for transparency. Jensen called the product “a completely new category of multifunctional ingredients that helps food producers create clean-label, plant-centric foods that are healthier, more delicious, and far simpler to formulate”.

Planetary Impact Ventures, one of the company’s backers, highlighted FermiPro’s potential to influence food production at scale. “Multifunctional ingredients are important because they have the potential to change how food is made: fewer inputs, cleaner labels, and recipes that are both healthier and closer to the crops they come from,” the firm said in a statement. “For us at Planetary, this is part of a larger effort to help the food system rely less on ultra-processed inputs and industrial animal production and create more value directly from plants – a shift that is essential if we are to stay within planetary boundaries.”

The new round underscores investor confidence in SUMM’s ability to bring novel, plant-centric ingredients to market. “We are happy to continue to support the team led by Frederik Jensen, Chuchu Huang, Nabila Rodríguez Valerón, and Kasper Bus,” Planetary Impact Ventures said. Kost Capital also reaffirmed its support, while BoxOne Ventures and EIFO joined as new partners.

By focusing on multifunctional ingredients, SUMM aims to help food producers reduce reliance on gums, stabilizers, and synthetic additives often associated with ultra-processed foods. Its approach seeks to simplify recipes while aligning with consumer demand for clean-label products. “Big news for us at SUMM Ingredients,” Jensen said. “That’s the mission behind FermiPro – to help shape a completely new category of multifunctional ingredients that helps food producers create clean-label, plant-centric foods.”

As the company prepares for its autumn launch, the combination of fresh funding, a new identity, and an expanded team places SUMM in a strong position to make its mark in the growing market for plant-based and clean-label food solutions.
