Kale Foods acquires Färsodlarna to expand Swedish plant-based portfolio

May 29, 2026

Kale Foods has acquired Swedish plant-based brand Färsodlarna from investment company Novax, in a deal designed to strengthen its retail offering and support further consolidation in the Nordic market for sustainable plant-based food.

• Kale Foods has acquired the Färsodlarna brand and retail operations from investment company Novax.
• The deal added Swedish-grown, legume-based products to Kale Foods’ portfolio of plant-based brands.
• Färsodlarna’s sales and retail operations were set to be integrated into Kale Foods immediately.

Kale Foods, part of the plant-based group Kale United, confirmed that the transaction included the Färsodlarna brand and retail operations. The company described the acquisition as a strategic step in its plan to build a broader platform for premium plant-based brands through acquisitions.

Färsodlarna has built its presence in Swedish grocery retail with products based on locally grown legumes. The brand has focused on Swedish-grown proteins at a time when food companies and retailers have been looking to expand domestic, lower-impact protein options and reduce reliance on imported ingredients.

Through the acquisition, Färsodlarna will become part of Kale Foods’ existing portfolio of sustainable brands. Kale Foods said the deal would broaden its retail offer while creating synergies across distribution, marketing, and sales.

“This acquisition is a direct continuation of our M&A strategy. By adding Färsodlarna to the Kale Foods family, we not only broaden our offering to retail, but we also create clear synergies in distribution, marketing and sales. We see a huge potential in scaling up Färsodlarna's fantastic products even further,” said Conny Swahn, CEO of Kale Foods.

The acquisition came as Kale Foods continued to pursue growth through brand consolidation in the plant-based sector. The company has presented acquisitions as a central part of its long-term plan, with the aim of building a stronger platform for plant-based food brands across the Nordic market.

For Färsodlarna, the deal marked a new phase after its development under Novax. Novax and Färsodlarna described Kale Foods as the right owner to support the brand’s next stage of growth.

“We are incredibly proud of the journey we have made with Färsodlarna and how we have managed to put Swedish-grown proteins on the map. Now that it's time for the next chapter, Kale Foods is the perfect buyer to manage and develop Färsodlarna further. They have the right infrastructure, passion and ecosystem to take the brand to the next level,” said Oddgeir Hole, CEO of AB Svenska Färsodlarna.

The transaction took effect immediately. Kale Foods said work to integrate Färsodlarna’s sales and retail operations into its organization would begin at once.

The deal added another Swedish-grown, legume-based brand to Kale Foods’ portfolio and reinforced the company’s focus on retail-facing plant-based food. It also gave Färsodlarna access to a larger commercial structure as it seeks to scale its products further in grocery channels.
