RelSus takes top honors for R&D Excellence at Fi India Awards 2024

October 6, 2024

RelSus has secured a prestigious accolade at the 2nd edition of the Fi India Awards, winning the category Excellence in Research and Development – Budget (over INR 10 million). The award recognizes the company’s pioneering work in the alternative protein space, solidifying its role as a leader in sustainable food solutions. This victory, announced on 25 September 2024, highlights RelSus' commitment to advancing the global protein transition through cutting-edge technology and innovation.

Fi India, renowned for its comprehensive and credible awards process, collaborated with a panel of expert jurors and EY to ensure that only the most deserving companies were recognized. RelSus, in accepting the award, expressed deep gratitude to the event organizers, emphasizing how this recognition validates its relentless efforts to accelerate advancements in functional proteins and sustainable starches.

RelSus' success in this category is largely attributed to its proprietary Ultra-Precise Filtration Technology Platform. This technology has established a new industry benchmark, enabling the company to develop what it calls 'Plant Proteins 3.0, which have garnered substantial praise for their quality and functionality. The platform has not only set RelSus apart in the crowded alternative protein sector but also exemplified its commitment to sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly crops in its product development.

“This multi-stage membrane technology effectively eliminates impurities and anti-nutritional compounds. It also removes off-flavors and beany tastes that were challenges in the early stages of product development. And it concentrates valuable micronutrients,” explained Vineet Singhal, CEO of RelSus. “We use a water-based process that avoids harsh chemicals or solvents. As a result, the proteins we produce are not only high in protein but also rich in bioavailable micronutrients, making them particularly beneficial for health.

“This award is a testament to the dedication of our entire R&D team," enthused Singhal. "We’ve worked tirelessly to develop innovative solutions that not only push the boundaries of plant-based proteins but also drive sustainable practices across the industry. We are honored that our efforts have been recognized by such a credible platform as the Fi India Awards.”

In addition to the award, RelSus noted the overwhelming positive response from customers at the Fi India event. The consistent feedback from the event’s attendees reinforced that the company's research and development initiatives are making a significant impact on the protein landscape.

RelSus' portfolio of Plant Proteins 3.0 represents the next generation of sustainable, high-functionality proteins, positioning the company at the forefront of the protein transition. Their vision is to continue using science as a driving force for good, ensuring that their future research and development efforts contribute to a more sustainable global food system.

“Although plant proteins are seeing rapid growth, they should be expanding even faster, especially considering the urgency of climate action,” he says. “One of the key barriers has been the sensory profile. When we launched our initial products during the first and second waves of development, we encountered issues with beany and off-flavors. But I’m proud to say that with our third wave of technology advancements – specifically our Ultra-Precise Filtration Technology – we’ve been able to effectively remove these undesirable flavors.”

With its win at the Fi India Awards, RelSus is poised to continue setting new standards in the alternative protein industry, pushing the boundaries of innovation while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and scalability.
