Silk Canada launches 18g complete protein plant-based beverage

May 22, 2026

Silk Canada has launched a new high-protein plant-based beverage containing 18g of complete protein per serving, as consumer demand for protein-rich products continued to accelerate across Canada.

Silk Canada launched Silk 18g Protein, a plant-based beverage delivering 18g of complete protein per 250 mL serving.
The product is available in Regular and Chocolate flavors in a 1.42 L refrigerated format.
Danone Canada said 71% of Canadians were looking to increase protein intake as part of a balanced lifestyle.

The new product, launched by Danone Canada’s Silk brand, is now available at major grocery retailers nationwide.

Silk described the launch as the first plant-based beverage in the Canadian market to combine high protein levels with complete protein.

The beverage also contains added fiber, 10 essential nutrients, and 50% less sugar than comparable dairy milk products, according to the company.

“Protein is a key nutrient for health at every stage of life, and we know that plant-based proteins, including soy, can offer long-term health benefits,” said Janna Boloten, Director, Nutrition and Scientific Affairs at Danone Canada.

“Canada's food guide recommends eating plant-based protein foods often, and this nutritionally fortified plant-based beverage is a new and exciting way for consumers to do so.”

The launch comes as protein continues to dominate nutrition trends globally, with manufacturers increasingly developing products aimed at consumers seeking higher protein intake across mainstream food and beverage categories.

Danone Canada cited internal research indicating that 71% of Canadians were attempting to increase protein consumption as part of a balanced lifestyle.

The company also said plant-based beverages were not always perceived by consumers as protein-dense products, despite growing interest in plant-derived nutrition.

Silk 18g Protein was developed to target everyday consumption occasions including coffee, cereal, and standalone drinking, while offering a smoother texture than many conventional protein beverages.

“Silk is leading a new era for plant-based beverages in Canada – where consumers do not need to compromise on delicious taste and nutritional benefits to add plant-based products into their daily routines,” the company stated.

“We believe that plant-based beverages are for all Canadians and Silk 18g Protein was developed to break the stigma and make it easy for everyone to enjoy, whether that's in coffee, over cereal, or on its own.”

The beverage is available in both Regular and Chocolate variants and includes nutrients linked to bone health and energy metabolism, including calcium, vitamin D, and B vitamins.

Silk has operated within the plant-based category since 1977 and forms part of Danone’s global portfolio of dairy and plant-based brands.

Danone Canada said the launch reflected its wider focus on expanding plant-based nutrition offerings while supporting changing consumer dietary preferences.
