Solar Foods signs MoUs for commercialization of 6,000 tons of Solein per year
Solar Foods has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with international customers to commercialize a total of 6,000 tons of Solein per year. The agreements outline key principles for future collaboration, moving toward binding contracts that would secure significant offtake for Solar Foods’ planned large-scale production facility, Factory 02.
The company has already been working with these customers on research and product development. If the MoUs lead to final agreements, the 6,000-ton commitment would represent approximately 50% of Factory 02’s total annual capacity, once fully operational.
Factory 02, currently in its pre-engineering phase, will be built in three stages, with phase one targeted to begin operations in 2028 and full production of 12,800 tonnes per year expected by 2030. This facility will scale up nearly one hundred times the capacity of the company’s existing Factory 01. The final investment decision for Factory 02 is scheduled for 2026.
“These agreements serve as compelling proof of Solein’s commercial outlook,” said Pasi Vainikka, CEO of Solar Foods. “We are now deepening our collaboration with customers through the development and commercialization of food, beverages, and nutritional consumer products, aiming for new product launches first in the USA. These agreements also play an important role in preparing for the final investment decision for our industrial-scale production facility, Factory 02.”
Details on the first Solein-based product launches, including timelines, will be shared by Solar Foods’ customers as commercialization progresses.
