Univar Solutions adds Roquette proteins and fibers to North American portfolio
Univar Solutions has expanded its distribution relationship with Roquette to include Nutralys plant proteins and Nutriose soluble fibers in the USA and Canada, adding nutritional ingredients alongside an expanded cellulosics portfolio.
• Foodology will distribute Roquette proteins and fibers in the USA and Canada.
• The agreement expands an existing cellulosics relationship.
• Applications include protein beverages, fortified snacks and meat alternatives.
Announced on November 4, the agreement brings the ingredients into Foodology by Univar Solutions, the distributor’s food and beverage business. It extends a collaboration previously focused on cellulosics, which manufacturers use to manage properties such as texture, stability and processing performance.
The expanded range is aimed at applications including protein beverages, fortified snacks, baked goods and meat alternatives, with nutraceuticals and sports nutrition also identified as areas of focus.
“Together with Roquette, a global pioneer in plant-based ingredients, we’re delivering on our promise of bringing innovative, sustainable solutions to our customers,” said Aaron Lee, Senior Vice President of Health & Nutrition for Univar Solutions.
“By expanding our collaboration beyond cellulosics to include plant proteins and fibers in North America, we’re aligning Roquette’s leadership in food innovation with our unmatched supply chain and market intelligence to help shape the future of nutrition.”
The Nutralys pea protein ingredients described in the announcement are derived from non-GMO yellow peas using Roquette’s patented water-based process. The range gives food manufacturers options for incorporating plant protein into different product formats.
Nutriose soluble fibers are sourced from non-GMO wheat or corn. Roquette describes the ingredients as having a neutral taste and strong processing stability, allowing manufacturers to add fiber while preserving a product’s original flavor.
The announcement also highlighted digestive tolerance as a characteristic of the fiber range. Ingredient selection and formulation remain application-specific, particularly where manufacturers are seeking to raise fiber content without changing the eating or drinking experience.
Alongside the nutritional ingredients, the agreement includes an expanded cellulosics portfolio comprising Methocel, Wellence, Ethocel, Tabulose and Microcel.
These ingredients address functional requirements across food applications, supporting texture, stability and manufacturing performance. The expanded relationship therefore covers both nutritional additions and ingredients used to manage how a finished product behaves during processing and consumption.
“We are pleased to expand our collaboration with Univar Solutions beyond cellulosics to include plant proteins and fibers,” said Gaetan Fauvarque, Head of Global Distribution Management for Roquette’s Nutrition and Bio-industry Business Unit.
“This expanded relationship will make more of our products available to customers in North America. Together, we can build on our respective strengths to bring innovative plant-based solutions to more customers and better respond to evolving needs across the food and nutrition industry.”
Univar Solutions identified protein fortification, increased fiber intake, plant-based diets and foods developed around the needs of consumers using weight management therapeutics among the trends relevant to the portfolio.
The agreement concerns ingredient distribution and customer access. It does not announce a new manufacturing facility or a newly developed protein or fiber ingredient.
Roquette has continued to develop the Nutralys portfolio through separate product launches. In February 2026, it introduced Nutralys Pea 850F, a pea protein isolate designed to reduce vegetal off-notes while maintaining functional properties suited to food and beverage formulations.
That development addressed a practical obstacle in higher-protein foods: adding more protein can also increase unwanted flavor, making sensory performance an important part of ingredient selection.
Roquette had previously expanded its textured protein offering with Nutralys T Wheat 600L and Nutralys T Pea 700XC, aimed at different plant-based and hybrid food applications. Those launches illustrate the range of formats within the Nutralys portfolio, although the November distribution announcement did not list individual protein grades.
For Foodology, the Roquette agreement adds nutritional ingredients to a business that combines distribution with formulation and recipe development, logistics, and market and regulatory knowledge.
Univar Solutions supplies specialty chemicals and ingredients across several industries, while its Foodology business supports food and beverage manufacturers. Roquette, a family-owned ingredient producer with more than 90 years of experience, serves food, nutrition, pharmaceutical and industrial customers.
The North American agreement covers customers in both the USA and Canada. Financial terms and individual product availability dates were not disclosed in the announcement.
