Eat Just brings its new Just Meat chicken to more than 3,000 Walmart stores nationwide
Eat Just, Inc has announced that its latest product, Just Meat, had rolled out to more than 3,000 Walmart stores across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The launch marked the company’s most significant retail expansion to date and introduced what it described as a plant-based chicken that had outperformed conventional chicken in independent taste tests.
The company, best known for its plant-based egg brand Just Egg, said the new product was the result of six years of research and development. It aimed to appeal to consumers seeking options that were high in protein, lower in cholesterol, and produced with fewer environmental impacts than standard poultry.
In addition to Walmart, Just Meat became available nationwide at Sprouts, H-E-B, Giant, Hannaford, Albertsons United, Tops, Stop & Shop, Price Chopper, Andronico’s, Bristol Farms, Mom’s Organic Market, and Mother’s Market. Eat Just said the product would be sold in half-pound portions and offered in four flavors: Original, Buffalo, Sesame Ginger, and Chili Lime.
Josh Tetrick, Co-Founder & CEO, said the company viewed the taste-test performance as a turning point. “This is the first time most consumers prefer plant-based chicken over animal chicken. That changes things,” he said.
According to the company, Just Meat contains 18g of protein per serving, has no cholesterol, and is made without GMOs. Independent taste testing conducted by Nichols Research in April 2024 found the product had outscored a leading frozen chicken strip brand.
Eat Just framed the launch as a natural extension of its mission to build a healthier and more sustainable food system. Since the debut of Just Egg, the company has sold the equivalent of more than 600 million eggs and expanded its retail presence across Whole Foods, Kroger, Target, Walmart, Sprouts, and H-E-B.
The company has received recognition for its approach to food technology, including acknowledgments from Fast Company, Entrepreneur, CNBC, and the World Economic Forum. With Just Meat now entering thousands of new stores, Eat Just said it expected the national rollout to help bring plant-based chicken into more mainstream shopping baskets.
