Nominations open for PPTI’s 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027

August 21, 2026

Protein Production Technology International has opened nominations for its 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027, beginning the search for the companies that will feature in this year’s end-of-year edition.

PPTI opened nominations for its 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027, with companies able to put themselves forward or nominate another business
Nominations will remain open until 16 September, before a shortlist of 81 companies is selected and public voting begins later in September
Last year’s 26 Food Techs to Watch edition remains PPTI’s most-read issue, giving selected companies a global platform to tell their stories

The initiative returns following the response to 26 Food Techs to Watch in 2026, published in December 2025. The issue brought together companies working across sustainable proteins, ingredients, fermentation, cellular agriculture, food biotechnology, manufacturing and enabling technologies.

It has remained PPTI’s most-read edition since publication, while the accompanying public vote attracted more than 13,500 votes.

For the 2027 edition, companies can either apply on their own behalf or nominate another business they believe deserves consideration.

The initial longlist is being assembled from nominations submitted by the industry alongside recommendations from PPTI’s Editorial Advisory Board and editorial team.

From that pool, 81 companies will be shortlisted, with public voting scheduled to open on 23 September.

The final 27 will be determined using three inputs: 40% from the public vote, 40% from PPTI’s Editorial Advisory Board and 20% from the PPTI editorial team.

Five of the highest-ranked companies will be announced during The Future of Protein Production Amsterdam on 4-5 November, before the complete 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027 is revealed in PPTI’s Q4 edition on 16 December.

For PPTI Editor Nick Bradley, one of the most rewarding parts of last year’s project was the opportunity to discover businesses that had previously received relatively little coverage. “Last year’s edition introduced us to founders and companies that, in some cases, I hadn’t even come across before,” said Bradley. “That was probably my favorite part of putting it together. There is an enormous amount of interesting work happening outside the handful of companies everyone already knows.

“The response afterwards was fantastic, and the fact that it is still our most-read edition tells us people want to discover who is coming next.

“So if you think your company should be among the 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027 – or there’s another company you think we should know about – nominate them. The process starts here.”

Nominations close on 16 September 2026.
